Overview
ByteFrame (“we”, “us”) provides a browser-based screenshot framing tool at byteframe.app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
The most important product detail: when you paste or upload an image into the editor, framing, annotation, redaction, and export happen in your browser on the canvas. We do not upload your screenshot files to our servers as part of that core editing flow.
Screenshots and canvas processing
Images you bring into the editor are processed locally in your browser for framing, gradients, annotations, privacy masks, and export. The resulting file downloads to your device (or copies to your clipboard) when you choose to export.
You are responsible for redacting secrets before you share an export. Use the built-in blur and redaction tools if a capture contains credentials, emails, or staging URLs.
Accounts and authentication
You can explore the editor without an account. If you sign in, we use Clerk to authenticate you. Clerk processes account identifiers such as email address and authentication metadata according to its own privacy policy.
We store a corresponding user record in our database (for example Clerk user id, email, Pro status, and payment customer id when applicable) so we can unlock Pro features and manage billing state.
Payments and Pro subscriptions
Paid Pro checkout and customer portal flows are handled by Dodo Payments. Payment card details are processed by that provider; we do not store full card numbers on ByteFrame servers.
We receive payment-related events (such as subscription or customer identifiers and email) needed to mark your account as Pro and to open the customer portal. Billing questions can be sent through Contact.
Contact form messages
If you submit the contact form, we collect the name, email, and message you provide so we can respond. Those messages are stored in our database and reviewed by our team. You can also email support@byteframe.app.
Local storage and device data
We use browser local storage and IndexedDB to keep editor preferences, style kits, and optional drafts on your device, such as theme-related choices, sidebar layout preference, temporary checkout markers, and in-progress canvas work. That data stays on your device unless you clear site data in your browser. It does not sync across browsers or computers.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics (and may use Google Tag Manager) to understand aggregate traffic and product events, such as whether the contact form was submitted successfully. These tools may set cookies or similar identifiers and collect device and usage information according to Google's policies.
Analytics is not used to read the content of images on your canvas. You can limit analytics cookies through your browser settings or industry opt-out tools where available.
Authentication and payment providers may also set cookies required for signed-in sessions and checkout.
Retention and security
Account and billing records are kept while your account is active and as needed for accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Contact messages are kept long enough to resolve your request and for reasonable follow-up.
We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to the data we store. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use strong unique passwords for your account and redact sensitive content before sharing exports.
Your choices and rights
- Use the editor without creating an account for core framing.
- Clear local storage and cookies for byteframe.app in your browser at any time.
- Manage or delete your Clerk account sign-in through Clerk's account controls where available, or contact us for help.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. Contact us to exercise them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of ByteFrame after an update means you accept the revised policy.
